License to Ill

So early morning on Thursday my parents and I travelled to Jefferson City for the swearing in festivities. When we got off the highway in Columbia, there was a man standing in the median wearing a suit and a sandwich board. The board said "New MBA Graduate Actively Seeking Employment. Keep Your Donation Take a Resume". You can't help but give him points for creativity.

So we arrived in JC and located some rockstar parking in front of the Capitol and the Supreme Courthouse. The ceremony inside the courthouse lasted about an hour or so and then we went to lunch at a small steakhouse with impeccably poor service. After lunch we attended the federal swearing in inside the House chamber, which was pretty sweet. You get to sit at the desks on the floor while your family sits in the gallery. They do a roll call and then administer the oath.

All in all, a pretty cool day.

Oh, for my friends in Kansas House District 43, I ran into a good friend of mine from law school at the swearing-in the other day. Lee Urban is running for the Kansas House seat for western Olathe, Gardner, and Spring Hill. He's a good cat and I think he'll do well for the county in Topeka. Be sure to go check out his website and write-up in the Olathe section of saturday's KC Star.
